Neck Pain

Neck pain is the second most common problem in a chiropractor’s office. This can be due to many different things, such as:

  • Injury,
  • Poor posture–such as a head forward posture,
  • Or bad alignment of the head or neck spine, which causes muscles to work harder.

This puts pressure on vital nerves coming out of the neck spine, resulting in neck pain, stiff neck, a loss of range of motion, and pain radiating into the shoulders.

Neck pain can affect day-to-day activities, such as driving or exercising, it can cause fatigue or concentration and focus issues, and impact your mood.

There are many things that you can do at home in between chiropractic appointments that may help with neck pain, including:

  • Keep moving and maintain a healthy weight,
  • Invest in a good pillow that helps to preserve the natural curve of the neck,
  • Maintain good posture to help ease the pressure on your neck,
  • Ice may help with inflammation, while heat may help relax stiff or tight muscles.

Poor alignment causes muscles to not work properly, which further puts pressure on vital nerves coming out of the neck. Chiropractic care is designed to correct those misalignments of the spine called subluxations. Subluxations can occur from physical, emotional or chemical stress.

It is important not to ignore neck pain because the condition may get worse over time. Repeated movements, such as heavy lifting or even spending hours in the same office chair, can strain muscles and tissues in your neck, complicating neck pain further.
